Introduction
The Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary, Lakhimpur, plays a vital role in supporting livestock development, improving animal health, and enhancing the livelihood of farmers. At the district level, the department delivers veterinary services, implements government schemes, and promotes scientific animal husbandry practices among rural households.
Our History
The department has been functioning in the district since a long period, gradually expanding its network of veterinary institutions including veterinary hospitals, dispensaries, and sub-centres. Over the years, it has contributed significantly to livestock health care, disease control, and genetic improvement programs.
Our Mandate
The key mandates of the department at the district level include:
- Providing accessible and affordable veterinary health services
- Implementation of livestock development programmes
- Disease surveillance, prevention, and control
- Promotion of artificial insemination and breed improvement
- Capacity building and awareness among farmers
- Supporting dairy, poultry, piggery, and goatery development
Key Programmes and Schemes
1. Rashtriya Gokul Mission (RGM)
- Genetic upgradation of cattle through AI services
- Doorstep AI delivery in rural areas
2. Livestock Health & Disease Control Programme (LH&DCP)
- Vaccination against Foot and Mouth Disease (Cattle and Buffalo), Brucellosis (Cattle and Buffalo), PPR (Goat), CSF (Pig).
- Disease surveillance and tagging of animals
3. Assistance to States for control of Animal Diseases (ASCAD)
- Vaccination against H.S., B.Q., LSD, ET, R2B, F1, Rabies
4. National Livestock Mission (NLM)
- Fodder & Feed development, Skill development & Training, Animal Insurance etc.
- PM JUGA :- Distribution of Goats in forest patta land areas.
5. Mobile Veterinary Unit (MVU)
- Doorstep treatment facilities on phone call basis (Phone No. 1962)
- 8 nos. functional in Lakhimpur district
