Introduction

            In Lakhimpur District, the North Lakhimpur Water Resources Division is the divisional office under Water Resources Department, Assam which is situated at Ward No. 6, North Lakhimpur Town, Namghar Path. 

Our History

            In Lakhimpur District, this division was established on 01.04.1954 as North Lakhimpur Embankment & Drainage Division. It was renamed as North Lakhimpur Flood Control Division during the year 1970. Again, this division has renamed on 1^st November 2002 as North Lakhimpur Water Resources Division, North Lakhimpur. There are 3 (three) numbers of Subdistricts under North Lakhimpur Water Resources Division and are namely (1) Lakhimpur-Ranganadi Water Resources Subdistrict with head quarter at North Lakhimpur, (2) Nowboicha Water Resources Subdistrict with head quarter at Panigaon (temporarily running from North Lakhimpur) and (3) Bihpuria Water Resources Subdistrict with head quarter at Bihpuria.

Our Mandate

            The mandate of this division is management of flood and erosion. Presently this division is constructing new embankments & hydraulic structure where necessary. This division is also maintaining all the existing embankment and hydraulic structures under its preview. Raising and strengthening of old embankments are also executed as per deed. 

Key Programme and Schemes

            Key Programme and Scheme wise details under North Lakhimpur Water Resources Division are: - 

            Ongoing schemes of 2022-23 under NABARD RIDF XXIX:

1. Restoration of improvement of Singra bank embankment.
2. Construction of Sluice Gate at Bhogaman Shilkhaguri on R/B of Subansiri.
3. Construction of retirement Teliapather area of Subansiri R/B embankment from Bhimpora to Na-Ali including channel cutting and pro-siltation measures.
4. Anti-erosion measures to protect Achera Kata, Gowalbari, Baligaon, Dafalakata & Balibheta and its adjoining areas from the erosion of river Subansiri.

Ongoing schemes of 2022-23 under SOPD (FDR): 

1. Protection work at downstream of Dhunagurighat from Hamara-Bahgarah to Chenimoraghat on right bank of river Subansiri. (SOPD-G-FDR) 

2. Restoration of Sessa L/B embankment (closing of gap in between Bhogpur Sessa PWD Road and Ch. 3700m) including A/E measures. 

            Ongoing schemes of 2024-25 under NIDA

1. River training works along with construction of new embankment and A/E measures to resolve perennial flood inundation problem of Singra river at Gelahati area. 

   NB: This scheme is proposed to be foreclosed due to land acquisition problem.

            Ongoing schemes of 2024-25 under SOPD-G: 

1. Construction of new embankment from Upadhyay Chuburi to Sarania on R/B of Singra. 

Achievements

            Already completed schemes under SOPD(FDR) during 2021-22

1. Anti-erosion measures to protect Ghancharai and its adjoining area from 35^th Km to 36^th Km on R/B of river Subansiri. 

2. R/S to Sumdiri L/B embankment from Ch. 0m to 5150m including extension upto R/B embankment river Subansiri to Sumdirimukh. 

3. R/S of Singra L/B embankment at D/S of NH-15. 

4. A/E measures to protect Haridas, Maghowachuk and Sonowalgaon of Badhakara area on right bank of river Subansiri. 

            Already completed schemes under RIDF XXVIII for 2022-23

1. Construction of retirement Teliapathar area of Subansiri R/B embankment from Bhimpora to Na-ali including channel cutting and pro-siltation measures.
